45th Annual Shiner Half Moon Holidays Friday, Saturday

The 45th Shiner Half Moon Holidays and BBQ Cook Off will be held Friday and Saturday with all activities taking place at Green-Dickson Park.

Friday, July 5

On Friday, Margarita, Giblet Rice, and Steak Cook-Offs will be held and Bill Pekar and The Rainey Bros. will begin the evening providing the musical entertainment.

The Emotions will follow and later in the night their version of the Sweet Emotions will play and provide a lot of favorite throwback hits.

All live music is free at the Merrem Pavilion.

The Beer Garden, a variety of food booths and vendors will be open from 6 p.m. until midnight.

Saturday, July 6

On Saturday the day will begin with the 5K Fun Run and will be followed by the parade through downtown Shiner.

The parade will start at 10 a.m. at Patek’s Grocery and Market and end at Avenue B/ Wendel St.

Following the parade, you can head to Green-Dickson Park where all activity are scheduled to take place throughout the day.

A pulled pork sandwich meal fundraiser benefiting the Golden Crescent Habitat for Humanity will be held from 12 to 2 p.m. Tickets can be purchased at the Shiner Chamber of Commerce (817 N Ave E) or City Hall (802 N Ave E).

The Beer Garden, food and vendors will open at noon.

Activities scheduled during the day include a dunking booth, a kids fishing tournament, a washer tournament.

Also, a mobile escape room, mini golf, axe throwing, petting zoo, foam party, tennis tournament, and much more will be available at the event.

In the Half Moon Holidays BBQ contest, cook-off teams will compete in brisket, ribs, pork, chicken and beans to see who reigns as the best in those areas. Also, a kids cook-off of pork steak will take place.

The Shiner Royal Court is sponsoring a Red, White, and Blue Dessert contest at 5 p.m. at the BBQ Barn. It is free to enter and first, second, and third place trophies will be awarded.

Saturday’s music starts off with the Shiner Hobo Band on stage providing your polka music from 12:30 p.m. to 3:30 p.m.. The will be followed by Shiner’s 2nd Wind band from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m.

After the BBQ awards are presented at 7 p.m., the Texas Dream Band will take the stage until 9:15 p.m. There is no cover charge.

The traditional Half Moon Holidays Fireworks Spectacular will light up the sky around 9:15 p.m. and as soon as the sun goes down, the Texas Dream Band will return to the stage to close out the night. Admission is free.
