Editor’s Note: We are honored to bring Henry Joe Jasek over to The Moulton Eagle and have him take over “Town Crier.” Because of his length of service for our newspapers and his knowledge of Moulton and the surrounding area; we knew Henry would be a natural fit for Town Crier. He shares a little about his work history below. - Murray Montgomery

By Henry Joe Jasek

My name is Henry Joe Jasek. I am a former long-time resident of the Moulton area. I graduated from Moulton High School in 1956.

I started my first job at the Moulton Eagle on Thursday, Aug. 30, 1956.

On Tuesday, June 11, I was transferred to the Lavaca County Tribune and the Novy Domov in Hallettsville. The Malec Publishing Co. owned the newspapers back then. I have been employed at the paper for 67-1/2 years. I was 18 when I started and now I am 86. I guess I am lucky to be able to still work anywhere from 33-35 hours a week. I am also employed at Hoffer’s Drive In for almost 51 years.

It has been brought to my attention that The Moulton Eagle does not cover enough local happenings such as social events and other local events.

We would like to publish birthdays and  anniversaries in this column and other news around town.

I have been writing the Town Chatter column in the Hallettsville Tribune-Herald for over 20 years and it has become very popular. People are constantly sending  in their birthdays, anniversaries, parties, organization fund-raising/benefit dinners and other local news.

If there is enough interest we would like to make Town Crier a weekly news column.

Please email your “Town Crier” news to the tribuneherald office.manager@lavacacountytoday.com Call 361-798-2481; fax it to 77964.

* Altar Society Noodle

Soup Dinner – Feb. 25

The Annual Noodle Soup Dinner is quickly approaching. Donations toward the dinner are accepted and appreciated. Raffle tickets for prizes to be given away at the Annual Noodle Soup Dinner may be purchased from Altar Society members, at local businesses or at the Parish Office. Proceeds are used to purchase the hosts, altar wines, oil for the candles, altar linens, vestments and other items needed for Liturgical celebration. The Altar Society also provides altar flowers when needed and monetary support for Church projects and programs.  Make plans to come out and support the ladies. They do so much for the Parish.

* Mava Jalufka was honored with a birthday party on her 62nd birthday  by her husband, Mark Jalufka at George’s Place in Moulton. A large number of relatives and friends were present to help her celebrate  her birthday. A delicous stew dinner with all the trimmings, and a large array of hors d’oeuvres were enjoyed by all present.
