Shiner Catholic School students bring flowers to the front of church last week during their weekly student mass to honor Mary, in a simple ceremony known as the May Crowning.

It is celebrated in May, and usually involves a procession, where an image or statue of Mary is adorned with flowers or herbs to honor Mary as Queen of Heaven and Mother of God.

In Shiner’s ceremony last week, all second graders who received the First Communion earlier this year were also encouraged to wear their special outfits they wore when they received their sacrament.
