44th Annual Half Moon Holidays this weekend

The City of Shiner will celebrate its 44th Annual Half Moon Holidays and BBQ Cook-off this Friday and Saturday, June 30 and July 1 with all activities held at the Green Dickson Park.

Beginning Friday, area cooks will be in full swing at the Green Dickson Park participating in the BBQ cook-off and preparing Margaritas, Giblet Rice, and Ribeye Steaks.

Shiner’s 2nd Wind Band and The Emotions will provide a free performance at the Merrum Pavilion during the evening with Shiner’s 2nd Wind Band playing from 6 to 7:30 p.m. They will be followed by The Emotions from 8 p.m. to 12 midnight.

In addition, The Palace Saloon Beer Garden, a variety of Food Booths, and Vendors will open at 5 p.m. until midnight.

Saturday will start off with a 5K Fun Run and the annual Parade through downtown Shiner beginning at Boehm Tractor Sales and ending at the KC Hall.

Following the parade, all activities will shift to Green Dickson Park with the Palace Saloon Beer Garden, food and vendors open at noon.

Throughout the day, a washer tournament, kids fun zone, petting zoo, face painting, tennis tournament and softball tournament will be offered as well as barbecue teams competing in brisket, ribs, chicken and beans cook-offs. In addition a Kids Cook-off of pork steaks will be held.

Saturday’s music starts off with the Shiner Hobo Band and will be followed by Joe Bob’s Bar & Grill Band, Texas Dream Band and Bill Pekar.

The traditional Half Moon Holidays Fireworks Spectacular, sponsored by Boedeker Companies and Kaspar Companies, will light up the sky around 9:15 p.m. as soon as the sun goes down.

Texas Dream Band takes the stage again to close out the night. Admission is free
