45th Annual Shiner Half Moon Holidays to be held next weekend

Shiner will celebrate its Half Moon Heritage and Independence Day at the 45th Annual Half Moon Holidays & BBQ Cook Off to take place next weekend, July 5-6 at Green-Dickson Park.

Friday, July 5:

On Friday, the BBQ cookers will be in full swing at Green-Dickson Park with the Margarita, Giblet Rice, and Steak CookOffs on the schedule.

The night will start with Bill Pekar and The Rainey Bros. and finish with The Emotions playing a lot of favorite throwback hits.

All live music is free at the Merrem Pavilion so come out and kick up your boots.

The Beer Garden, a variety of food booths, and vendors will be open from 6 p.m. until midnight.

Saturday, July 6:

Saturday will begin with a 5K Fun Run and you don’t want to miss the parade through downtown Shiner beginning at Patek Grocery and Market and ending at Avenue B/Wendel St. The parade will start at 10 a.m.

Following the parade, head on down to Green-Dickson Park where all activities are scheduled to take place throughout the day.

A pulled pork sandwich meal fundraiser benefiting the Golden Crescent Habitat for Humanity will be held from 12 to 2 p.m. Tickets can be purchased beforehand at the Shiner Chamber of Commerce (817 N Ave E) or City Hall (802 N Ave E).

The Beer Garden, food and vendors will open at noon.

What looks like lots of fun for all ages will take place during the day including a tug of war, kids fishing tournament, washer tournament, mobile escape room, mini golf, axe throwing, petting zoo, foam party, tennis tournament, and much, much more.

Barbecue teams will test their skills at the Half Moon Holidays BBQ Cook-off with brisket, ribs, pork, chicken and beans on the menu, as well as a kids cook-off of pork steak.

The Shiner Royal Court is sponsoring a Red, White, and Blue Dessert contest at 5 p.m. at the BBQ Barn. It is free to enter and first, second, and third place trophies will be awarded. 

Saturday’s music starts off with the Shiner Hobo Band on stage providing your favorite polka music from 12:30 p.m. to 3:30 p.m., followed by Shiner’s 2nd Wind band from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m.

After the BBQ awards at 7 p,m., the Texas Dream Band will be on stage until 9:15 p.m. There is no cover charge.

The traditional Half Moon Holidays Fireworks Spectacular will light up the sky around 9:15 p.m. and as soon as the sun goes down, Texas Dream Band will take the stage again to close out the night. Admission is free.
