It’s still to early to tell, but a major hurricane, Beryl, is breaking records as it moves through the Caribbean at this time.

Currently Beryl, a Category 5 hurricane is packing winds at 165 mph with wind gusts up to 200 mph. It is considered the strongest hurricane ever recorded in June or July in the Atlantic Basin.

As of this writing, the storm is moving west-northwest at 22 mph.

Beryl is expected to move toward the Yucatan Peninsula late Thursday night or early Friday morning.

It’s track is showing it entering the Gulf of Mexico over the weekend.

According to Accuweather, the predictability of the storm depends on a high pressure ridge that has brought heat and rain-free days to Texas and steering tropical activity away from the United States.

The high pressure is expected to move eastward over the weekend, which opens up the window for the Beryl’s path to move north in the Gulf.

As of Tuesday morning, July 2, models have shown it possibly taking a track somewhere along the Texas coast by 8 p.m. Monday night.

Beryl is expected to be downgraded to a Tropical storm with winds around 65 mph. just under hurricane status.

Although it’s days away from the Texas coast, Texans are urged to keep a close eye on Beryl. The forecast will become clearer over the weekend.
