As a Sergeant at Shiner Police Department, Kevin Kelley said he doesn’t get to brag about his officers as much as he’d like.

But what he witnessed of the department’s newest officer recently made him request an exception, Sgt. Kelley said.

Shiner Police Officer Greg Proske was mere shifts away from being allowed on his own patrols, having just begun in Shiner a few weeks ago.

Sgt. Kelley, also making his rounds about the city, thought he’d check in on his new officer just to see how things were going.

Didn’t take Kelley long to find him, he said. What was truly remarkable, however, was how the young officer didn’t bat an eye when it came to helping an elderly Shiner resident, whose tire blew out on her as she drove through town, not even when the thermometers were pushing triple digits already at 9:41 a.m. on Thursday, July 14.

“Even in today’s world our true calling is still to protect and SERVE,” Sgt. Kelley said. “Great job, Officer Proske! Way to represent what Shiner Police truly stands for.”
