At its Monday, May 10 meeting, the Hallettsville ISD board of trustees recognized Lady Brahmas tennis state qualifiers, participants in the UIL Academics and the Lady Brahma softball state semifinalists.

The board voted to make the final payment on the parking lot east of the high school to Frontier Development in the amount of $820,851.

H & C Construction of Shiner will make the improvements on the elementary campus drop off area for students at a cost of $431,810.77.

The board voted to buy a 2024 Chevrolet crew cab pickup for the ag department at a cost $47,164 from Grafe Chevrolet-GMC.

The 2023-24 enrollment for district schools was 1,169 - 441 students in elementary, 301 in junior high and 427 in the high school.

The lowest enrollment in the last 20 years was 881 students during the 2007-08 school year.

There was no action taken on the removal of a tree in the Phase 2 of the parking lot project.

The board tabled buying four new buses from Longhorn Bus Sales.

Also tabled was accepting proposals for custodial and other maintenance services.

Finance report:

• The district has collected 97.19% ($8.77 million) of the 2023 taxes as of May 31. The original tax roll was $9.03.

• At the end of February, local revenue collected was 88.59% and there was $920,273.87 in the general operating fund.

• The General Operating & Maintenance account balance was $782,500.35.

• Interest earned on the Money Market stood at $25,533.478.

• The district has expended $98.56% of the 2023-24 budget.
