In addition to an increased department-wide emphasis on training efforts and them all working full time day jobs as well, Shiner firemen have been running hard during this hot, dry summer, either putting out their own fires or helping other agencies beat back theirs.

So, just how bad is it?

On Thursday, July 14, Shiner’s Volunteer Firemen had to knock them out two at a time.

The first call came in with a two-acre grass fire along County Road 350. As they finished that up and were refilling their water tank, a second page went out, this time to a three-acre along Gonzales County Road 364, so they ran over and took care of it, too.

Still, two sizable brush fires within an hour of each other? That’s pretty bad.

Be careful out there, folks. Everybody is under burn ban right now, with good cause.
