Rain continues in March

Rainfall in March reached 4.62 inches with several good downpours hitting the area. Rain fell on eight days led by 2.43 inches on the 21st. For the year Hallettsville has received 17.55 inches which is 7.68 inches above normal.

Storms on the 15th produced penny to golfball size hail accompanied by wind and heavy rain.

Normal rainfall for March is 2.26 inches.

Rainfall records for the month include 9.88 inches in 1926 and zero in 1916. The month was on the mild side with highs averaging 77.2 degrees (normal is 74), and lows averaged 58.1 degrees (normal is 52).

A high of 90 degrees was hit on the fifth while the month’s low of 43 degrees was seen on the ninth and tenth.

All-time records for the month include a high of 98 degrees on March 28, 1971 and a low of 18 degrees on March 4, 2002.

Fog shrouded the city on 17 days and thunder was heard on four days.
