Those who live in shiner no doubt know that fact already because of the highway banners that have touted as much for days now.

It’s part of an additional plug the Shiner Market Days, now a registered non-profit organization, requested last Tuesday, Sept. 6, of the Shiner city council when the group’s representatives went before city aldermen to make a couple requests of that will help promote not only their monthly event but the town of Shiner itself.

Regarding the highway banners, council approved their putting those up monthly, provided they didn’t conflict with other city events which also sport similar banners, such as the annual Half Moon Holidays, the big July 4 bash held at Green Dickson Park.

Those events which previously used the banners as part of their advertising and have been around longer than Market Days would be given priority over their monthly recurring event.

Even then, they still might get over-the-road advertising then, too. Because in addition to hanging a banner over U.S. 90A, they also got the go ahead to place one near Friday’s over Highway 95.

Most events only use the U.S. 90A location.

Hannah Bordovsky, spokesperson for the Shiner Market Days events, also made a request for $2,500 of the city’s Hotel Occupancy Tax Funds, for use in securing advertising in Texas Monthly magazine to promote their monthly event and the City of Shiner as a whole.

Those funds come from the extra taxes people pay to stay the night at a hotel, motel or bed and breakfast. They can be used to promote tourism and various events that, to borrow the quick version so often used when HOT dollars are requested, “put heads in beds” of the local lodging establishments.

That request is also granted on Sept. 6.
