Tropical rains hit area

June weather was dominated by moisture from tropical storm Alberto which brought good rains to the area.

The storm was not a wind-maker but produced 2.99 inches during the four-day visit.

The heaviest rain came on the nineteenth when 2.54 inches fell during several rounds of good rain. June’s total of 4.05 inches was just about an inch below the normal average with rain falling on nine days.

For the year Hallettsville has received 26.86 inches which is an inch above the normal of 25.86 inches.

Temperatures ranged from a high of 98 degrees on the 27th and 29th to 73 degrees on the first and sixth.

Daytime highs averaged 93.9 degrees (normal is 92.3) and morning lows were 76.1 degrees (normal is 70.9).

Temperature records include 109 degrees on June 27, 1980, and 52 degrees on June 2, 1926.

Fog was seen on four mornings and thunder was heard on three days.
