In an all Hallettsville final, Red defeats White for East Zone Title

CUERO – In an all Hallettsville final, Hallettsville Red defeated Hallettsville White, 17- 5, in four innings Saturday to win the District East Zone Major League championship.

The Reds hit four home runs in the contest. Konnor Chance led the victory with two home runs, a double and three runs batted in. Ryan Kalmus ended the game via the run rule with a grand slam homer and Myles Kalmus hit a three-run homer in the first inning.

The Reds scored five runs in the top of the first inning on a two-run round tripper by Chance and a three-run blast by Myles Kalmus. Tanner Pustka and Ty Rother set the table with base hits.

The Whites cut the lead to 5-1 in the second inning when Gage Grahmann singled and scored on another base hit by Aiden Sosa.

A two-run third by the Whites trimmed the lead to 5-3.

Easton New and Kolby Kolacny singled and both scored on an infield out by Jase Rose.

But the dam broke in the bottom of the third when the Reds scored seven runs on eight hits and an error.

Chance led off with a ringing double to left center and scored when Luke Meinkowsky also doubled. Tanner Pustka laid down a sacrifice bunt followed by run-scoring singles by Charles Strode and Ryan Kalmus. Braxton Hearn ensued with a two-run base hit.

The White put two runs on the board in the fourth inning. Karter Podhajsky was safe on an error and scored on a wild pitch. Brayden Utley walked and also scored on an errant pitch and the lead was trimmed to 13-5.

But the Reds ended the game early in the fourth on Ryan Kalmus’s grand slam.

The Reds collected 18 hits with Chance, Rother and Myles Kalmus having three apiece.

Whites 13, Cuero 0 (5)

The Whites gained the finals with a 13-0 victory over Cuero in five innings Friday.

Brantley Steffek pitched a gem with a no-hitter, struck out four and walked just one.

Hallettsville played errorless ball.

Hallettsville scored its runs on just five hits and were aided by five errors. Hallettsville scored two runs in the second inning, both on errors.

Five runs were put on the board in the fourth inning. Aiden Sosa had a big two-run single and he scored on a ground out by Zach Perez. Gage Grahmann hit a RBI single.

A six-run fifth inning featured a two-run single by Steffek, a base hit by Cullen Hanslik, four walks and two hit batsmen.

Red 13, White 2 (4)

Hallettsville Red laced out 12 hits and used four errors and four walks in the victory Tuesday, June 18.

Easton Clark and Charles Strode combined on a one hitter.

Clark threw the first three innings and gave up both runs (one earned) no hits, walked three and struck out eight.

Strode worked the final frame and struck out all three batters he faced.

Tanner Pustka went 2-for-3 with two runs batted in and Clark had two hits in two plate appearances.

Owen Jansky had the lone extra base hit, a double. Alex Grahmann, Konnor Chance, Myles Kalmus, Braxton Hearn and Strode all singled.
