The Hallettsville Major League softball All-Stars pretty much had things their way in tournament play up until Monday evening in the Section IV Tournament.

The All-Stars had to dig deep to pull out a 2-1 victory over Refugio County at Crane Field Monday evening.

Refugio had taken a 1-0 lead in the fourth inning before Hallettsville rallied.

The locals had only one hit entering the bottom of the fifth inning - a single by Amryn Etzler - before rallying for the two runs with two outs.

Brenna Bucek drew a one-out walk, stole second and moved to third when Chloe Grahmann grounded out third to first. Kenley Sevcik came through with a huge hit on when she grounded a 0-2 pitch in the hole between first and second to score Bucek. Sevcik stole second. Lynley Kallus had big hit No. 2 with a single to score Sevcik.

Macyn Wimberly and Paelyn Etzler combined to hold Refugio County hitless.

Wimberly started, and despite control problems made it through the second inning after walking the bases loaded with one out. She struck out one batter and got the other to ground out to second baseman Heidi Grahmann.

Etzler was the winning pitcher in relief and worked the final two innings. She gave up an unearned run, no hits, walked and recorded nine strikeouts.

Refugio County scored its run in the fourth inning. With one out, Ashlyn Lewis was safe on a one-out error, stole second and came around on an errant throw which ended up in the outfield.

Hallettsville stranded four runners in scoring position before breaking through with the two-run rally.
