CUERO – The Hallettsville Major League girls defeated Shiner, 9-2, Saturday to clinch the District 31 championship.

Paelyn Etzler pitched a two-hitter and struck out seven. Etzler retired the first seven batters she faced before walking Patricia Price in the third inning.

Hallettsville established its superiority with a four-run first inning.

Blair Ranly singled and scored on a sacrifice fly by Macyn Wimberley for the second out of the inning. Etzler singled and scored on a dropped fly ball hit by Adley Zappe. Chloe Grahmann was safe on an error and Kenley Sevcik’s base hit scored the final two runs of the inning.

The locals pushed across four more runs in the second inning to up the count to 8-0.

Amryn Etzler was safe on an error. Morgan Felcman walked and Reese Sklar also drew a base on balls. Another walk to Ranly forced in Amryn Etzler prior to Heidi Grahmann delivering a two-run single. Wimberly collected a RBI on an infield out for the final run.

Shiner scored its two runs in the fifth inning.

The final Hallettsville run was scored in the sixth inning.

Chloe Grahmann hit a single and scored on an error.

Hallettsville advanced to the Sectional Tournament in East Bernard starting July 1.

H’ville 8, Shiner 1

Paelyn Etzler handcuffed Shiner with a three-hitter in the 8-1 victory Tuesday, June 18 in Cuero.

Etzler struck out 10 and ceded three hits and one walk. She retired the final seven batters to end the game.

The game was nipand-tuck through the first three innings before Hallettsville scored three runs in the fourth inning and four in the fifth.

Shiner scored its lone run in the first inning after Addison Ulcak walked and scored on a wild pitch. Hallettsville replied in the bottom of the first to knot the score at 1-all.

Heidi Grahmann hit a one-out single and went to third when Macyn Wimberly doubled to left field. Heidi Grahmann scored on a sacrifice by Paelyn Etzler.

Hallettsville took a 4-1 lead with a three runs fourth.

Blair Ranly led off with a walk but was forced at second by Heidi Grahmann’s fielder’s choice. Paelyn Etzler doubled to left center for the first run and scored on a single by Adley Zappe. Lynley Kalmus knocked in the first run with a base knock. Four runs in the fifth inning came on just one hit with two errors helping the cause.

Brenna Bucek walked and moved to second on Amryn Etzler’s sacrifice bunt. Sevcik reached on an error and Morgan Felcman’s single scored the first run. Ranly singled and two runs came across when Heidi Grahmann’s fly ball was dropped for a two-base error.

Hallettsville collected seven hits and three walks in the contest.
