Shiner Little League: LL softball teams get second in district tournaments

Shiner Little League Minor and Major softball and baseball teams played in their International District 31 East Zone Tournament June 15 through Saturday.
Minor teams played in Hallettsville and the tournament site of the Majors was Cuero.
Both the Minor and Major softball teams finished in second place. 
Minor Softball 
Shiner 17, Hallettsville Red 9
Shiner had a first-round bye and got started with a 17-9 win over Hallettsville Red on June 16.
Shiner 18, Hallettsville White 8
Shiner booked passage into the championship series with an 18-8 rout of Hallettsville White on June 18.
Hallettsville White 12, Shiner 2
Shiner endured its first defeat of the tournament in a 12-2 loss to Hallettsville White on Friday. They came up short in the rematch on Saturday to finish as runners-up.
Major Softball 
Shiner 15, Lockhart 0
Shiner earned the shutout and scored plenty in a 15-0 win over Lockhart on June 15 to start tournament play.
Shiner 14, Yoakum 0
Shiner had another stellar all-around performance by blanking Yoakum 14-0 on June 16. 
Hallettsville Red 8, Shiner 1
The latter part of Shiner’s third-round game against Hallettsville Red June 18 was not friendly to Shiner.
Hallettsville broke a 1-1 score in the fourth frame with three runs and followed up by scoring four runs in the fifth inning for an 8-1 win.
In the bottom of the fourth, Blair Ranly drew a leadoff walk but was out on the fielder’s choice at second to get Heidi Grahmann on base. Macyn Wimberly moved Grahmann over on a sacrifice before Paelyn Etzler doubled in Grahmann; Adley Zappe then knocked in Etzler on a double. 
Zappe later scored to put Hallettsville ahead 4-1.
Grahmannn had a three-run double in the fifth to heavily contribute to Hallettsville’s four runs on three hits.
Shiner took the lead to start the game — Addison Ulcak was walked and got to second on a one-out sacrifice groundout by Eastyn Pohler. Ulcak scored Shiner’s lone runner later in the inning on a passed ball.
Hallettsville answered in the bottom of the inning with a Grahmann single and she scored on a sacrifice fly from Etzler.
Paisley Todd singled in the second inning for Shiner but no runs were scored.
Hallettsville went in order in the next two innings with Avery Colman getting four strikeouts. 
Shiner got one runner in scoring position and two hits but no runs in the fourth. Presley Pohler got an infield single but was later called out when Eastyn Pohler’s batted ball nearly hit her as she was running from first to second. Eastyn Pohler later stole second but was left stranded.
Colman ceded eight runs on seven hits, had three walks and struck out six batters. 
Presley Pohler, Eastyn Pohler, Todd and Kenzie Springfield each had one hit while Ulcak scored one run.
Shiner 10, Yoakum 3
Shiner earned a place in the tournament championship with a 10-3 win over Yoakum on Friday.
Each team scored two runs in the opening inning. Shiner kicked things up a notch in the fourth inning by platting five runs before scoring another trio of runs in the fifth inning.
After the first inning, Yoakum scored just one other run, in the fourth box.
Shiner got seven hits with Kenzie Springfield going 2-for-2,  Eastyn Pohler going 2-for-2, double and three runs and Presley Pohler going 2-for-3 with two runs. Patricia Price got one hit with Kendyl Boehm, Avery Colman and Paisley Todd  all scoring one run.
Eastyn Pohler pitched for Shiner, yielding three runs and three walks but striking out 13 batters.
Hallettsville Red 8, Shiner 2
Early runs by Hallettsville gave them the title as they beat Shiner in the rematch and the tournament title game 9-2.
Hallettsville scored four runs in each of the first and second innings.
Shiner brought in two runs in the fifth; Hallettsville Red scored an insurance run in the sixth.
Shiner was held to one hit by Price with Boehm and Colman scoring one run each.Colman pitched for Shiner.
Minor Baseball
The 8-10-year-old baseball team won their opener before coming up short in their next two games to conclude the season. 
Shiner 30, Lockhart 1
Shiner overloaded their side of the scoreboard in a 30-1 win over Lockhart on June 15.
Hallettsville Red 20, Shiner 5
On June 16, it was a slight famine for Shiner as they scored just a few runs in a 20-5 loss to Hallettsville Red.
Gonzales 13, Shiner 12
Gonzales rallied in the bottom of the sixth inning to tie the game and get the walk-off run, winning 13-12 on June 17.
Shiner had started on the offensive foot, ahead 7-0 after two innings and 9-4 after four innings.
Leading 12-10 in the top of the sixth, Shiner got one hit and no runs.
Gonzales started off with Kaiden reaching second on an error before Ckady was walked and Luke M. was hit by the pitch to load the bases.  Luke N. drew a bases-loaded walk to score Kaiden to get Gonzales within 12-11. Shiner pitcher Lyncoln Leal rallied for two strikeouts to get his team within one out of winning the game. 
Caleb reached on an error and Ckady scoring to tie the game before Tripp singled to score Luke M. for the walk-off run.
Shiner opened the game with Jacob Patek and Beckham Wiederhold getting singles, followed by Leal doubling down the third-base line to score Patek and Wiederhold scored on an Ian Pesek hit past first base. Gonzales then got a strikeout and turned a double play to end the half inning.
Barrett Curtis led off the top of the second for Shiner with a hit to right field. Finn Jaroszewski doubled. Curtis later advanced home; Ellis Colman was hit by the pitch followed by Jaroszewski successfully stealing home for a 4-0 lead.  Colman scored on a passed ball and Ace Aman got a hit and later went home on a wild pitch. Patek was walked and later went home on passed ball to put Shiner ahead 7-0.
Shiner went up 9-0 in the the fourth  as Colman and Slayten Molnovsky were each walked and scored on a passed ball and sacrifice, respectively.
In the bottom of the fourth, Gonzales got four hits, including a triple and got three walks to score four runs.
Shiner got one hit in the fifth, a single by Leal, and plated three runs.
Gonzales then exploded for six runs at their turn at bat in the fifth.
Shiner had the better luck at the plate with 11 hits, led by Wiederhold who was 2-for-2 with two runs; Leal hit 2-for-2 with one run, double and RBI and Curtis who finished 2-for-3 with a run and RBI.  Jaroszewski got a double and scored one run. 
Patek started at pitcher, going 3 2/3 innings, four hits, four runs, four strikeouts and six walks. 
Aman worked 2/3 innings, six runs, one hit, four walks and one strikeout.  Leal closed with 1 2/3 innings, three runs, one hit, four walks and two strikeouts.
Major Baseball
Shiner 22, Luling 3
Shiner kicked off the tournament hot with 20-plus runs in a 22-3 win over Luling June 15.
Hallettsville White 9, Luling 8
Shiner dropped a 9-8 barn burner to Hallettsville White on June 6.
Shiner 13, Yoakum 3
Shiner kept their chances of advancing to the tournament championship alive with a 13-3 rout over Yoakum June 17.
Cuero 7, Shiner 6
Shiner gave the hosts Cuero all they could handle but fell short 7-6 on June 19.
