The Hallettsville Volunteer Fire Department was called to a structure (house) fire last Wednesday, Feb. 28 around 9:28 a.m.

According to HVFD fire chief Stephen Grahmann, the house located at 409 N. Rogers St., had heavy fire damage to the back and moderate fire damage to the front.

Grahmann said when HVFD arrived the fire had spread to the entire house.

He said they quickly got the fire under control.

“There was not much fire load in the house,” Grahmann said in his report. “We did have a strong north wind that did help spread the fire in the house, but it did not affect the fire suppression.”

Grahmann said the house, which has Julius Lemons as its owner, was unoccupied and did not have any utilities connected at the time of the fire.

The cause of the fire is under investigation by HVFD as well as the State Fire Marshal’s office.
