The Hallettsville Volunteer Fire Department answered to a house fire on Thursday afternoon, May 30, which resulted in an estimated $55 thousand in property and content loss.

According to HVFD chief Steven Grahmann, the department was called to a structure fire located at 2953 FM 957. The call came in at 2:08 p.m. Thursday.

Grahmann said when they and the Hallettsville Police Department arrived they found the home fully engulfed in flames.

He said upon arrival they found a live power line lying in the front yard and called the power company requesting the electricity be disconnected.

In addition, they also shut off the propane to the home and proceeded run water hoses to three sides of the house.

Grahmann said it took a while to extinguish the fire and get it under control.

He said the house’s owner is listed as Patricia Kallus of Port O’Connor.

Besides HVFD sending six apparatus to the scene and 16 firefighters, Grahmann said the Shiner VFD and Sweet Home VFD assisted with providing water for the fire.

Grahmann said the fire is being investigated by the State Fire Marshal’s office, the Victoria County Fire Marshal, and the Lavaca County Sheriff’s office.
